MARC LANDRY
A light source? Leading-edge industrial design? Fine art? You decide.
A self-taught designer, Marc Landry is heavily influenced by industrial design from the ’50s and ’60s, although his creative approach remains resolutely modern. His works are sculptural lamps with fluid lines, reminiscent of coral formations and other marine organisms.
Each work is unique. He meticulously draws each of his pieces using 3D design software before turning it into a real-life object, using fuse deposition modelling. The designs are then 3D printed using Polylactic Acid (PLA), a plastic substitute made from fermented plant starch – an alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics. Marc is very mindful of the impact his production might have on the environment. The result is ultra-light weight, using exactly enough material to create translucence from an LED light source, without any unnecessary material. Careful assembly of the various components brings each work to life – creating the unique sculptural lines. Design and technology combined to create a contemporary, eco-friendly, statement piece.
