Holly Farrell

b. 1961

Holly Farrell is a Canadian painter who lives and works in Toronto. A self-taught painter, Farrell has been painting professionally since 1995.

"It is my hope that the experience of growing up in northern Ontario and the influences of small town life are evident in my work. Nostalgia drives my subject matter, I think of my Still Lifes as simple meditations of the places and people we have known - that there is a sense of the Portrait in each of my paintings - that many of us have had some kind of connection to that bowl, or that book, or that chair.”

"I find my past beating steadily, assuredly, through my paintings - reaching back into a wake of memories. We are all a mash of memories and experiences that piggyback upon other peoples' memories and experiences - all reacting to a past upon a past, connected only by things that are constant and familiar. When I reach out and touch something - a bowl, a book, some thread - I connect to people, places, times that I have known and have not known… all that makes me… where I come from, where you come from. And I am reminded, that… nothing begins today."

Farrell’s work has been exhibited globally in numerous solo and group shows. Her work is included in private and corporate collections throughout North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. Notable recent purchases include those by TD Bank, Bank of Montreal, the Louis-Dreyfus Family Collection, Wires Jolley Canada, and Sony Music, Japan.
