ANDREA BOLLEY

b. 1949

Andrea Bolley's paintings are abstract works which take inspiration from Colour Field painting. Her work has been recognized for its complex treatment of surface, colour and depth. Often this is achieved by her distinctive use of dimensional paper elements in her work to create undulating surfaces for the application of the pigment. Her “paper paintings” offer a unique combination of collage and painting.

Bolley's first major exhibition was held at the Pollock Gallery in 1977, and received received critical attention for the artist's seriousness and ability to establish her own expressive voice. A retrospective exhibition of Bolley's work was held at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in 1981. She continues to paint and exhibit today.

Bolley's work is held in major public and private collections including the Art Gallery of Windsor, the Canada Council Art Bank, Imperial Oil and the Toronto Dominion Bank.
